FAQ's About Coaching

How can I fit coaching into my already busy schedule?

All of our individual and group coaching is conducted by telephone. We talk from wherever we happen to be – the office, at home, in an airport or hotel. I have a global business with clients all over the world!
The client simply calls in at a pre-scheduled time for a session that generally is 45 minutes to one-hour in length for individual coaching and one and a half hours for group coaching.

How can I afford coaching?

If you have an issue about money, the question really should be – How can I not afford coaching? Return on investment (ROI) is what it is all about. Consider, if coaching results in a new job or a job promotion and you are earning more money, or if you have a business and coaching helps you make that business more profitable or increase revenue, what value would you put on coaching? Read the testimonials in each section of the website. What would you pay to get similar results? Many times corporations reimburse client expenditures for coaching. Business coaching is tax deductible. (See your Accountant.) If money is really an issue for you, talk to Ruth Zanes about different coaching modules and fees. Group Coaching is frequently an answer to restricted budgets.

Why does coaching work?

Coaching works because of three unique features:

  • Synergy - Client and coach become a team, focusing on the client's goals and needs and accomplishing more than the client would alone.
  • Structure - With a coach a client is encouraged and supported to take more actions, think bigger and get the job done, thanks to the accountability which the coach provides and the insights into situations and personal barriers that historically have stood in the way of goal achievement.
  • Expertise - The coach knows how to help people make more money, make better decisions, set the best goals and restructure their career, business, professional and personal lives for maximum productivity and satisfaction.

Who works with a coach?

Coaching clients are people from all walks of life who are interested in personal and professional growth and/or have specific goals or situations they want to handle. Coaching clients are typically people who are already successful and seek new challenges or are seeking clarity of purpose and new directions. Our clients include entrepreneurs, business owners, corporate executives, managers, professionals, retirees, parents, people facing family crises. Types of projects and issues we work with clients on include career transitions, start-up businesses, business expansion, personal and business financial success, increasing productivity and effectiveness, creating balanced life-styles, personal and business relationships etc.

How does coaching happen?

Clients bring an agenda of what they want to work on to each coaching session. The coach helps them to solve the problems, and make the most of opportunities. When the client is missing a principle, distinction, or insight the coach presents a new perspective so the client can see the situation a whole lot better from a different point of view. When a client is taking on a large goal, the coach helps to design the project and provide the support and structure needed to make sure it gets done. Coaches bring out the client's best by offering their insights, expecting a lot, helping to strategize, pointing out options and celebrating the victories.

What should I look for in a coach?

The right coach brings out your best, consistently. To do this the coach you select should pass the following four criteria: 1) Does this coach have appropriate training in coaching skills, life experience and recognition from other coaches as a basic foundation 2) Does this coach have a track record of helping someone like me to accomplish goals similar to mine? 3) Will this coach keep up with - and ahead of me - as I grow? 4) Do I feel good and am I motivated to take action after talking with the coach? Do I feel the chemistry is right between us?

How would I get started?

If you feel that this type of relationship could work for you, call and let's talk. Coaching is not something that is sold, it is something you buy because you want it and you, or your company, wants to invest in you.

Where do I start with a coach?

The coach, Ruth Zanes, begins with a preliminary, complimentary meeting (by phone) so that the client and coach get to know one another. I want to hear about the client's goals, problems and needs. The client wants to get comfortable with the coach. During this meeting, both parties design a list of goals and a game plan to reach these goals. After this meeting, the client will receive a welcome e-letter and fill out some assessment materials on the website. I spend extra time (gratis) with new clients to get to know them better and find the best ways for client and coach to work as a team to accomplish the goals.

How long would I work with a coach?

I ask for a minimum of a six month commitment. After that, the length of time depends on what the client's needs are. Some of my clients work with me for years, (eight is the current record) and they intend to include coaching as an on-going part of their life. In many cases clients come back periodically as they encounter new situations or face new projects and goals. Clients and coach generally know when it is appropriate to end the coaching agreement, or to move onto another coach who has different areas of expertise.

What if I feel that I am not getting the results I expected?

You must be willing to communicate your feelings and tell the truth. I will be open and tell the truth to you as well. I am committed to having boundless love, compassion, strength and understanding for whatever the client is feeling. Either the client begins to experience success or we will suggest that they find another coach.

What is the difference between coaching and therapy?

Coaching is goal driven, fast paced and action based. Coaching works from the premise that the client is whole, competent and strong. Coaching produces paradigm shifts. In contrast, therapy is based on healing emotional scars thru discovering the why of behavior. Therapy focuses on the gradual healing of hurts experienced in the past. The coach is not a therapist. However, coaching clients frequently do report shifts in behavior, the disappearance of counter-productive, repetitive behavior patterns and inner peace and satisfaction. The coach will help the client face up to self-generated barriers, increase understanding and appreciation of themselves and others in their lives. If the coach feels that the client would benefit from therapy that recommendation will be made. Some clients work with a coach and a therapist at the same time.

What if I don't know what I want and have no goals?

Many clients come to coaching with this complaint. Our expertise is in having people discover their purpose, create a vision and mission. Personal and business goals naturally evolve once a person embraces their purpose and their dreams.

What if I know that I can never achieve my goals because of the practical realities of life?

Coaching is about designing a life you love to live and not settling for anything less. You can discover that you can have what you want and find out how to get it in the coaching process.

How much does it cost to work with Coach Ruth?

Coaching is one of the best investments you can make in yourself. The fees for coaching will depend on the number and frequency of sessions, what's at stake for the client and the client’s current situation.

What do fees cover?

Three scheduled 30 to 45 minute sessions per month. Session may go over the allotted time, especially when clients are new. I consider myself to be in a 24 hour, 7-day a week relationship with my clients. You may call or e-mail me between scheduled calls, if you need advice, have a problem that cannot wait, or if you can't wait to share a success. I will make time between regular calls to speak with you, if needed. I enjoy providing this extra level of service.
We do not bill for additional time. However, if additional time becomes excessive I will discuss it with you and together we will come up with a workable solution. E-mail, telephone messages and/or faxes are the ways we usually communicate. You may use me to review materials you develop. I check e-mail three times a day and will respond to brief messages ASAP. We generally can respond to your longer documents in a few days. (There are no additional charges for these document reviews.)
